I've known you a fourth of my life
Came to me on a lonely night
And I was sure you were going to thrill me
Turns out I wasn't wrong
But the days are short and the nights are so long
And now you're sayin', that you're gonna leave me
That's just the way it goes
In a beat up truck down a two lane road
Trailer dust and broken dreams behind
That's just the way it goes
Learning to live with highs and lows
I hope this leaving don't change me
When love was young, we spent our days
Holding one another and learning new ways
Couldn't let go of the pain from the past
A boy from the country, girl from uptown
Things went crazy when your folks would come around
We rode a train, that came down crashing
That's just the way it goes
In a beat up truck down a two lane road
Trailer dust and broken dreams behind
That's just the way it goes
Learning to live with highs and lows
I hope this leaving, don't change me
Now I don't want you to get me wrong
By the words that I wrote down in this song
God knows what I think of you
Fact is I always will
I'd never leave standing still
There'll come a day when you need protecting
That's just the way she'll go
In that SUV down a two lane road
Trailer dust and broken dreams behind
That's just the way it is
Best we can do is learn to forgive
Hope this leaving don't change me

Old Man Gann

This is the story of Old Man Gann
He sat on his porch with a bottle in his hand
Blue flannel shirt and old brogans
His hands were stained by Prince Albert in the can
And he'd yell out Tippy, come here
Tippy was his dog that he had for ten years
That ole dog was his best friend
He'd run off and come back again
When he wasn't laughing he was crying real tears
Bot a gal that'd left in the "three C" years
Seems the only thing that got em off his mind
Was the truth that he found in a pint of early times
And he'd yell out Tippy, come here
Tippy was his dog that he had for ten years
That ole dog was his best friend
He'd run off and come back again
The neighborhood youngins would all gather round
To watch him stomp his feet when the wolf would howl
He had nine grandkids of his own
Couldn't ever get em on the telephone
And he'd yell out Tippy, come here
Tippy was his dog that he had for ten years
That ole dog was his best friend
He'd run off and come back again
Early one spring he up and walked away
Where he was a headin' he never would say
Tippy by his side, a bible in his hand
I never did see the old man again
And he'd yell out Tippy, come here
Tippy was his dog that he had for ten years
That ole dog was his best friend
He'd run off and come back again
